Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko believes he knows the reason why Mercedes was struggling during the pre-season testing. The Silver Arrows had a gearbox issue as well, their drivers had a difficult time while zipping around the track.

Marko also stated that Mercedes are still the favorites to win the championship in the upcoming season. He believes that the Brackley-based team is not showing everything they have for the 2021 season.

Even if Mercedes does have a problem, Marko knows they are a strong team and have time to fix any issue they have. Mercedes goes into the season with the hopes of winning their eighth title, but if these problems continue, they might have a hard time achieving that dream.

Helmut Marko knows Mercedes are hiding something

The Red Bull advisor said, “Mercedes is still the favorite. We think they drove with more fuel than us. That means they have a lot of confidence and don’t show the back of their tongue.”

He added, “This is a very strong, ideal team and there are still fourteen days until the first race. You can assume that they will have largely resolved their problems by then. They drove much harder than we did,” Marko repeats. “You have seen that Hamilton in particular has driven a lot off the track. The car is restless and unpredictable.” ( translated via Google)

Marko opens up on how is Perez doing against Verstappen

Sergio Perez joined the Milton-Keynes-based outfit for the 2021 season. He will pair alongside Max Verstappen for the forthcoming championship. Helmut reveals the progress of the Mexican driver against Red Bull.’s prodigy Verstappen.

Marko said, “We assume he only loses two or three-tenths to Max and not five. Sergio has integrated himself very well. He was already able to provide us with valuable information, especially regarding the Mercedes engine.”

Red Bull finished 2nd in the constructor’s championship last year while the Silver Arrows took home their seventh world title. With the likes of Perez joining the team and pairing up with Verstappen, they will fight Mercedes in 2021.
