Sarah Harding has revealed that her tumours have shrunk and that her cancer treatment is heading ‘in the right direction’.

In her autobiography, Hear Me Out, which is out this week, the former Girls Aloud singer discussed hearing the ‘momentous’ news, which allowed her to ‘relax’ and enjoy the festive season.

‘Before I put this book to bed, I wanted to share a little bit of positive news,’ she wrote in an excerpt obtained by the Daily Star.

‘MRI scans at the end of December revealed that the tumours in my brain and in my lung have shrunk a bit with the treatment.’

The 39-year-old added that wasn’t ‘exactly sure that that meant’ but acknowledged that ‘every little victory felt momentous.’

Sarah added: ‘With this news under my belt, I was able to enjoy a relaxing quiet Christmas with mum, and yes, I got plenty of lovely Christmas pressies.’

The former Big Brother star, who has breast cancer, has said she did not expect to see another Christmas.

Writing a piece for Sarah’s autobiography, her devastated former bandmate Cheryl said: ‘The news of Sarah’s illness hit me so hard. She’s been on my brain every waking hour — so much so that I feel like I want to be with her.’

The pair have reconnected on FaceTime, but the I’ll Stand By You singer said that sometimes Sarah was ‘just wiped out’.

Cheryl added: ‘Initially, I felt helpless. I struggled to find the right words to say when I spoke to her, and I didn’t know what to do or how to be.

‘Now I just want to be there for her in any way I can. She might want to cry or rant or even have a laugh but, wherever it is, just be there.

‘To hear her talk about what might have been in her life, and what should have been, destroys me. It’s broken me now, just thinking about it.’

Hear Me Out by Sarah Harding is published on March 18 (Ebury Press, £20 hardback plus ebook and audio).
