Susanna Reid was scolded by Edwina Currie as they got into a heated moment live on-air, leading the former MP to remind the presenter that she’s ‘not Piers Morgan’.

Edwina made an appearance on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain to defend the Government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as the first anniversary of the original lockdown approaches.

Listing a string of the Government’s failures, Susanna said: ‘They got it wrong right from the start, the Prime Minister missing Cobra meetings where they were discussing this emerging threat, his failure to shut down mass gatherings and saying that they weren’t a particular risk, his insistence that he was carrying on shaking hands even where there might be people with Covid.

‘The failure to test Track and Trace, the failure over PPE… the trouble is, it goes on and on and on.’

After several attempts to interject, Edwina shot back: ‘Susanna, you’re not Piers so give me a chance.’

The presenter then fired back at her guest: ‘Sorry, Edwina it has nothing to do with whether I’m Piers or not. These are facts which meant that we have this devastating death toll. What was the biggest mistake and what should they have done better?’

Edwina again made attempts to get a word in and asked repeatedly: ‘Let me respond.’

Viewers were amused by the clash with one reacting on Twitter: ‘Susanna being told she’s not Piers by Edwina Currie was classic.’

‘Well Susanna I think Edwina Curry summed you up pretty well,’ another said.’

One viewer added: ‘Me and my wife both just did this when Edwina told Susanna she wasn’t Piers Morgan.’

Of course, Piers sensationally quit Good Morning Britain last week after receiving 41,000 Ofcom complaints for saying he didn’t believe Meghan Markle’s revelation that she considered suicide due to racist abuse,.

His seat has since been filled-in by Ranvir Singh and Ben Shephard although it’s not known if he’ll get an official replacement.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
