Canelo Alvarez Recalls Abuse From Siblings on Mike Tyson’s Podcast: ‘They Always Tried to Beat Me’

There are only a handful of boxers today who can match the paramount stardom of Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican boxer has hit the right chords to captivate the attention of millions of boxing fans. Right from his debut until today, Alvarez has only improved as a ferocious and dominant boxer who has drawn several eyeballs to his bouts.

When looking at him now, fans wouldn’t assume that he used to be on the receiving end of things whilst growing up in Mexico. But that was the case as Alvarez had to face substantial abuse from his siblings.

In Mike Tyson‘s Hotboxin podcast, the 30-year-old shed some light on this pertaining juncture. Responding to Henry Cejudo‘s question on whether he’s the youngest in his family, Alvarez said:

“I’m the youngest.”

“They (siblings) always tried to beat me and laugh off me and everything I need to do something.” 

Canelo is the youngest of eight siblings in the Alvarez family. Being the youngest child in the family has its own pros and cons, and Alvarez experienced both sides of the spectrum. In the above podcast, Canelo revealed that all of his siblings were into pro-boxing.

Back then, nobody ever expected him to go this far. But the latter defied the odds and shut his naysayers to become one of the most exemplary prospects from Mexico and predominantly his family.

The Guadalajara native has hung around the sport for nearly two decades and has fairly proved his mettle. With every fight, Alvarez has unleashed his best version in front of the boxing fraternity.

In his last fight, Alvarez battered the Turkish pugilist, Avni Yildirim, to defend his WBC and WBA super-middleweight titles. Moving ahead, he’ll touch gloves with the WBO super-middleweight champ, Billy Joe Saunders, in his next outing on May 8.
