RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Ellie Diamond has expressed how excited she felt when John Barrowman reached out to praise her on her Snatch Game performance.

On Thursday evening, Ellie is going up against Lawrence Chaney, Tayce and Bimini Bon-Boulash in the final of Drag Race UK series two.

The stars of the cast have gained hordes of adoring fans since the programme began, with Bimini teasing a possible future collaboration with Katie Price after impersonating her for the Snatch Game.

During a recent Zoom conversation with Metro.co.uk and other press, Ellie revealed that her Snatch Game impersonation of Vicky Pollard, one of the characters Matt Lucas played in Little Britain, caught the eye of Dancing On Ice judge John, who decided to message her privately to let her know how impressed he was.

Ellie, from Dundee, Scotland, explained that Bake Off presenter Matt tweeted about her homage to the character, stating that he thought it was ‘fabulous’ and sharing a ‘back and forth’ interaction with the drag queen.

Then John – aka Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness – slid into the DMs, much to Ellie’s glee.

‘John Barrowman – I mean I didn’t do him for Snatch Game. John Barrowman messaged me and was like, “Your Snatch Game was brilliant.” I was like, “Oh my god, thank you so much Captain Jack Harkness”,’ Ellie recalled.

Lawrence, who was also being interviewed on the same Zoom chat, added that John was keen to help support drag queens in Scotland, having not known previously how little money they make on the circuit.

‘He was so so sweet, and he wants to support Scottish drag as well. He had no idea that queens were not well paid,’ Lawrence said.

For the Snatch Game, Lawrence’s impersonation of Miriam Margolyes didn’t go down too well, resulting in her place in the competition being at risk.

The Glaswegian drag queen jokingly admitted that she hopes Miriam never watches the segment back.

‘Miriam Margolyes to my attention has not said anything about it, but I don’t want her to say anything about it, I don’t want her to view it, I don’t want her to see it, I want that to crawl into a corner,’ Lawrence said.

‘I love Miriam Margolyes so much, so I just don’t want to upset her.’ We reckon Miriam would be a good sport about it!

BBC Three brings the final episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK to BBC iPlayer from 7pm Thursday March 18.
