Holly Willoughby is about to be killed off on Midsomer Murders after being offered a dream cameo role on her favourite show.
Phillip Schofield and the This Morning team had arranged to surprise the TV presenter after knowing she was a superfan of the series for years.
With stars Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix making an appearance on today’s episode, Holly was clearly over the moon when the pair broke the news she had been lined up for a special appearance.
As Phillip teased there was something she didn’t know, Neil stepped in and told her: ‘We’ve all had a big talk about who we want to appear on Midsomer, and we decided we want Holly Willoughby to appear in an episode of Midsomer Murders very soon.
‘I’ve been speaking to people upstairs and they’ve been speaking to your people.
‘Holly please, I am emboldened here to offer you a role in Midsomer Murders.’
Screaming ‘yes’ immediately, Holly teared up in shock at landing a role in her favourite show.
‘I’ve seen every episode since it started way back when. Are you serious?’ she asked. ‘I mean, you’re going to have to kill me off really quickly as I’m terrible at acting.’
‘That’s never held us back in Midsomer!’ the actor responded.
While they were hesitant to give away details on what her role entailed, it was promised that it would be a substantial part in an episode, with Holly either getting killed or being a murderer ‘or something’.
The murder mystery series has become famed by its increasingly barmy ways of killing off the victims – with Martine McCutcheon once being clobbered to death by a wheel of cheese, and another character getting pummelled with wine bottles on his own front lawn.
As the show’s number one fan, Holly already has ideas on how she wants her character to die.
‘Can I die by eating chocolate?’ she asked. ‘Because I saw an episode where somebody died by eating chocolate and I was like, “that’s the way to go.”‘
‘You can be eaten by badgers or something,’ Neil said.
‘Yes, suggestions, if there’s a particular way that you want to go, we can do it,’ Nick reassured her.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
