Good Morning Britain welcomed back Alex Beresford for Friday’s episode – 10 days after his on-air clash with Piers Morgan

The weather reporter was business as usual on the breakfast show during its launch at 6am, after taking some time off from an on-air row with Piers hours before he quit the show.

On Twitter, he simply wrote: ‘Good morning x’

Alex stood his ground in a debate with Piers last Tuesday over the fiery presenter’s reaction to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey

After Piers declared he ‘didn’t believe a word Meghan said’, Alex joined the conversation as a person of colour to give his thoughts on allegations a Royal family member had ‘expressed concerns’ about baby Archie’s skin colour while Meghan was pregnant.

But things turned into an overall commentary on Piers’s continued criticism of the Duchess of Sussex, with Alex suggesting Piers tone it down.

‘I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme,’ Alex said.

‘I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off… She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to.

‘Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.’

As a result, Piers stormed off the set saying he ‘wouldn’t be targeted on his own show’.

Just over 12 hours later, Piers had quit the morning breakfast show completely, after more than 41,000 people complained about his behaviour.

Alex later posted a statement supporting Piers, adding that he ‘never wanted his co-star to quit’.

‘I hoped we could reach a place of understanding,’ he wrote. ‘It’s sad that we weren’t able to get there but challenging his opinion was not an outrage. On this occasion we have to agree to disagree.

‘I didn’t want him to quit but I did want him to listen. Personally Piers has always supported my growth.

‘He’s given me advice on several occasions and for that I am grateful. I wish him well!’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
