Bimini Bon Boulash may not have won RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 – but they’ve been given the Mayor’s seal of approval.

In a political crossover we didn’t see coming, the non-binary queen was given support from Sadiq Khan as this year’s champion was crowned on the reality show.

While Bimini didn’t take home the crown and sceptre, Sadiq let Bimini know they did East London proud, and wrote: ‘Here in London you can be who you want to be, and love who you want to love.

‘Condragulations to London’s finest [Bimini] for a great [Drag Race]- you will always be our winner.’

The queen responded: ‘Thanks [Sadiq].’

Bimini, who was a fan favourite to take home the crown, went up against Lawrence Chaney, Tayce and Ellie Diamond in the final challenge.

Scottish queen Lawrence was crowned this year’s winner after a battle to the end, with the 24-year-old beaming that the world needs to get ready for the ‘purple reign’.

While fans reacted in uproar, saying Bimini was robbed, the queen made her feelings known and urged people to be kinder to the new reigning champion.

They cemented their feelings by saying: ‘#TeamLawrence ALWAYS!’ and retweeting a meme of RuPaul which read: ‘I don’t want to see any f**king Lawrence Chaney hate.’

On Friday morning, Bimini added: ‘I’m so proud of my journey on Drag Race UK. All I wanted was to make it to the final. Whatever would happen after would be a bonus.

‘I competed with myself the entire time and no one else. I believe in the universe and I trust the process. Everything happens for a reason.

‘My girl [Lawrence] is a totally worthy winner. The impact they had on the competition is undeniable and they’re talented, funny, beautiful and an all round fabulous human.

‘I love everything about them and I couldn’t be more proud of them for their deserved win.’

Season three of Drag Race UK has already been confirmed to be taking place, though the release date is not yet known.

But at least we won’t be short of content – with Drag Race season 13 still airing in the US, All Stars 6 confirmed to immediately follow, and Drag Race Down Under launching soon as well.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is available now on BBC Three on iPlayer (UK) and WOW Presents Plus (Rest of World).
