Kate Garraway was forced to step in and correct Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden today when he appeared on Good Morning Britain only to think he was on a different show.
The MP apologised after discussing appearing on GMTV – the ITV morning programme which was canned in 2010, replaced with failed show Daybreak before Good Morning Britain launched in 2014.
Discussing the importance of people getting the vaccine when offered to them amid concerns of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines causing blood clots, Mr. Dowden told Kate and her co-host Charlotte Hawkins: ‘This vaccine is safe, you can have confidence in it, it’s good for you, it stops you getting this horrible disease, and it’s good for the country because it helps stop the spread of the disease.
‘The number one thing people can do if they have hesitancy is look at reliable news sources, go to the BBC, to GMTV, see what they are saying about it, go to Gov.uk, if you have concerns you will see those are being addressed.
‘I think the vast majority of people, as the chief medical officer said yesterday, are still turning up, taking their vaccines, and they should take further confidence from further analysis that has been undertaken.’
Stepping in Kate – who did present GMTV during her earlier career – intervened.
She grinned: ‘As I’ve worked on both GMTV and on Good Morning Britain, I feel I should say to the Culture Secretary that we are actually Good Morning Britain, but it’s lovely you have watched us for that long!’
‘It’s been one of those mornings,’ apologised Mr. Dowden. ‘The fire alarm has gone off and everything else, so forgive me, I know full well you’re GMB.’
Following concerns surrounding the safely of the Oxford jab, countries including Italy, Germany and France, are resuming the vaccine roll out again from today after it was deemed ‘safe and effective’ by the European Medicines Agency.
Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands said they will follow suit next week, although Spain said it could exclude certain groups.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
