Martin Freeman has teased a possible Sherlock reunion could be happening on the big screen.

The actor played John Watson alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series, which was a huge hit with viewers.

We last saw the pair together on our screens in 2017, in series four, with fans calling out for a season five.

Lifting the lid on whether we’ll ever get more episodes, the 49-year-old said: ‘I think [a film] is possible. It might be more likely [than a series].

‘I think we’ve all left it so that it’s not a full stop, it’s just a big ellipsis or a big pause.

‘To be honest, I’m a big believer in not outstaying your welcome, but I really liked doing it. I’m very proud of the show.’

‘It’s been a while now, it’s four years since a new one was on TV, so maybe the more likely thing is a one-off,’ he added to Collider.

Martin isn’t the only person to have mentioned a possible cinematic adventure, with Benedict also suggesting it in a previous chat.

Refusing to rule out a reunion, the 44-year-old did explain that the pair are hugely busy in their careers.

‘I’m the worst person to ask on this because I never say never, obviously. But I don’t know,’ he said.

‘And I’m the worst person to ask because my slate’s pretty, pretty full at the moment, as is Martin’s and all the other key players involved.

‘So, who knows? Maybe one day, if the script’s right. And I say “the script,” maybe it could be a film rather than the series. Who knows?’

Someone get the scriptwriters on the phone, ASAP.

Sherlock is available to stream on iPlayer now.
