Sharon Stone has claimed that she slapped director Paul Verhoeven after being tricked into removing her underwear on set of 1992’s Basic Instinct.

Recalling the unpleasant circumstances while filming her role, the 63-year-old alleged that she was told to remove the item of clothing during her famous interrogation scene because it ‘reflected the light’.

In an excerpt from her new memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, obtained by Vanity Fair, the actress, who was 32 at the time of filming, also said that she was promised her private area would not be visible on-screen.

Sharon said she realised the agreement wasn’t honoured when she called to see the final version of the film in a ‘room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project.’

She wrote: ‘That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, “We can’t see anything, I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.”

‘Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina, in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls***. It was me and my parts up there.’

After the viewing, the legendary star said that she slapped director Paul ‘across the face, left, went to my car, and called my lawyer, Marty Singer.’

Singer reportedly told Stone it ‘wasn’t legal to shoot up her dress in this fashion, and according to the Screen Actors Guild, the movie could not be made.

‘I let Paul know of the options Marty had laid out for me. Of course, he vehemently denied that I had any choices at all. I was just an actress, just a woman; what choices could I have?’ Sharon wrote.

‘But I did have choices. So I thought and thought, and I chose to allow this scene in the film. Why? Because it was correct for the film and for the character; and because, after all, I did it.’

Sharon added that she felt the need ‘to become objective’ about the situation because she had worked hard to land her breakout role.

In her memoir, the Total Recall actress also claimed a director would constantly ask her to sit on his lap while he was giving instruction, while another told her she ‘should f*** her costar to have onscreen chemistry’.
