The Mash Report could be revived as the satirical format is reportedly being eyed up by the channel Dave after being cancelled by BBC2.

The show, fronted by Nish Kumar, was cancelled this month after four series to ‘make room for new comedy shows’ on the channel according to a statement from the BBC.

However, according to Broadcast’s sources, free-to-air channel Dave is eyeing up Zeppotron’s format, The Mash Report.

A source told the site: ‘Dave considers it to be a good brand that features some great talent which would help it to drive diversity.

‘Zeppotron has used it as a platform to raise the profile of lots of new voices over the years.’

Another insider added that it would be a ‘great fit’ for Dave: ‘As Dave tries to be less male-dominated and broaden its audience demographic, The Mash Report would be excellent for its diversity. Plus it is very funny.’

A spokesperson had confirmed that The Mash Report was cancelled by the BBC, telling The Sun: ‘We are very proud of The Mash Report but in order to make room for new comedy shows we sometimes have to make difficult decisions and it won’t be returning.

‘We would like to thank all those involved in four brilliant series and hope to work with Nish Kumar, Rachel Parris and the team in the future.’

Following the cancellation, the corporation revealed that it had received complaints from some viewers who were unhappy that the series had been decommissioned.

The Mash Report, which was hosted by Nish since its launch in March 2017, had also starred comedian Rachel and had run for four series.

Previous episodes of The Mash Report are currently available for catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
