‘There Is That Little Extra Motivation’ – Jared Goff Talks About His New Challenge in Detroit Following Trade From LA Rams

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff attempts a throw against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

After four seasons with the LA Rams, Jared Goff has a new challenge ahead of him with the Detroit Lions. The quarterback, a two-time Pro Bowler, carried his side to Super Bowl LIII but was deemed not good enough by his previous franchise.

Traded for quarterback Matthew Stafford, Goff takes on the play calling duty for the Detroit Lions. A franchise that has failed to make the playoffs since 2016.

While the trade took place before Super Bowl LV, it was made official on March 17 with the start of the new NFL league year. And with the 2021 NFL season now only a few months away, Goff is looking to use the trade as extra motivation ahead of the new season.

Jared Goff ready for the new challenge

During his first press conference as a Detroit Lions player, Goff when asked about his trade, said how he’ll be using it to motivate him for the challenges ahead.

“I think at first, absolutely. It builds that chip on your shoulder a little bit… I won’t lie about that. There is that little extra motivation and chip that you do feel,” Goff said.

Goff was the #1 overall pick back in the 2016. Playing for University of California Berkeley, the Rams drafted by Goff to address their QB issues and he certainly looked to be the part early on.

Talking further about the change, the Lions new QB said the change is good. Something that he never knew he needed.

“It is a good change… It’s something I never knew I needed until now, and you kind of come out here and you experience it,” said Goff.

Talking about his goals in Detroit, Goff said he plans to make the franchise a serial winner from here on.

“It is a sports town, and being able to play in a sports town is special. It’s something that I’m excited about. I know football is king here, and I plan to make it a winner,” he added.

With the Lions, Goff might find life a little more difficult than LA. But do you feel he has what it takes to guide them to the playoffs?
