AJ Pritchard speaks out after girlfriend Abbie Quinnen suffers third-degree burns in horror accident
AJ Pritchard has thanked fans for their supportive messages after his girlfriend Abbie Quinnen was rushed to hospital with third-degree burns.
Abbie, 23 was admitted to intensive care in January before being transferred to Chelsea and Westminster’s specialist burns unit after she became engulfed in flames when a social media stunt went wrong.
Strictly Come Dancing star AJ was filming a ‘life hack’ with Abbie on January 19, aiming to show how a glass bottle could be cut in half to be used as a vase. The ‘hack’ involves dipping a rope into a flammable chemical, wrapping it around the bottle and lighting a flame.
However, the glass exploded during the dangerous stunt and Abbie’s upper body was burnt.
Addressing the horror accident in his latest episode of AJ v Curtis, which is due for release on Monday, AJ said: ‘Thank you very much for the love and support and the kind messages.
‘I know we haven’t replied to everybody, but yeah, thank you for that.’
AJ added that he and his girlfriend Abbie will talk about the incident at a later date.
‘We will talk about it further down the line when we both feel comfortable,’ he continued. ‘Thank you for that love, it means a lot and your support keeps us positive and keeps us all going.’
Abbie has undergone surgery on her upper body and will continue to receive treatment, a spokesperson confirmed.
They added: ‘Abbie and AJ cannot thank all the nurses and doctors enough for their incredible care, support and expertise whilst being at Chelsea and Westminster Burns Unit and at Ealing Hospital.’
AJ, 26, immediately called emergency services at the time of the accident but was told that it might take some time to reach his home in West London.
His brother, Love Island star Curtis Pritchard, then stepped in to drive them to nearby Ealing Hospital.
