All Star Musicals viewers totally lose it after Robert Peston’s ‘very odd’ take on a West End classic
Robert Peston swapped politics for the razzle dazzle of musicals on Sunday evening, taking part in All Star Musicals on ITV with a unique performance.
The political editor took to the stage on the show to perform a version of a classic song from the musicals – and it’s safe to say viewers couldn’t quite believe what they were seeing.
Robert treated viewers to a rendition of Luck Be A Lady from Guys and Dolls, dressed in a rather eye-catching suit.
The 60-year-old described the performance as ‘a dream come true’ before his performance, but things didn’t go totally smoothly.
While the journalist struggled with his American accent, Robert gave his all on the show and the performance saw him channel his inner Marlon Brando.
‘That was the scariest thing I’ve ever done,’ he said after leaving the stage, earning a score of 22 from the judges.
While some viewers were totally baffled by the performance, others were full of praise for giving performing a go for the first time ever.
‘Bit monotone and wooden, but all credit to Robert Peston for having a go!’ a viewer said.
Others weren’t so kind, with another saying: ‘Robert Peston is making me question my love for musical theatre.
The show saw a host of celebrities trying their luck with a host of classic songs from the musicals, trying to impress a judging panel made up of West End icons.
Heavyweights Trevor Dion-Nicholas, Elaine Paige and Samantha Barks critiqued a set of performances from a whole host of stars for one night only.
As well as Robert, Jessica Hynes performed When You’re Good To Mama from Chicago and Robert Rinder performing Be Our Guest from Beauty and The Beast.
Robert earned a full 30 stars out of 30 for his effort, enjoying every second of his time on stage, while Jessica also earned the top marks.
Luisa Bradshaw-White, best known as Tina Carter on EastEnders, also treated viewers to a take on This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.
Barney Walsh also sang Flash, Bang, Wallop from Half A Sixpence, earning 26 stars. Dr Raj Singh also earned for his version of Come What May from Moulin Rouge!.
However, it was Robert Rider who was crowned the winner for his fantastic performance.
All Star Musicals is available to watch on ITV Player.
