RuPaul’s Drag Race UK: Watch the emotional moment Lawrence Chaney discovers they’re the winner

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Lawrence Chaney broke down in tears discovering she was the winner of season 2.

The Scottish star, 24, was given the crown and sceptre in a fight to the finish line, with fans assuming the win would go to Bimini Bon Boulash.

In order to keep the results from leaking, all four finalists – Bimini, Lawrence, Tayce and Ellie Diamond – are filmed winning, with the actual result put in in the edit.

So the queens found out alongside the rest of the world, reuniting at a private screening held in London, with their phones taken off them to prevent spoilers.

Lawrence was dumbfounded and started crying as her name was finally called out by RuPaul, breaking down in tears as her socially distanced friends cheered her on.

All four finalists were then celebrated at a small ceremony hosted by Charity Shop Sue, where Lawrence was crowned for real with the others cheering her on.

Bimini, Tayce and Ellie didn’t go home empty handed though, and were all given crystal-encrusted medals for making it to the final.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk after the screening, Lawrence said: ‘It was nice, even though we couldn’t hug each other, or you know, congrats, it was nice to just be surrounded by the energy we had on set.

‘These are the queens you have spent the longest time with on the whole season. These are the people you know most, so it’s nice to be there with Ellie, Bimini and Tayce, and just celebrate.’

‘What happened was we put our phones away, and because they record multiple endings, no one had any idea,’ she explained. ‘I mean maybe Joe Black could have won, we really don’t know. Maybe “the winner is… RuPaul’s bank account!” Who knows? So it was really, really bizarre.

‘I didn’t think I was going to win, I thought Bimini was going to win, but then I thought I was getting eliminated every episode I won, so maybe that’s a self confidence issue there!’

As part of the prize, Lawrence is heading to Hollywood to create their own webseries with the production team behind Drag Race.

She added she hopes to be the ‘next Lorraine Kelly’ and focus on hosting, with RuPaul telling her to lay the ground work and ‘think of the long game’ when it comes to her career.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is available on BBC iPlayer (UK) and WOW Presents Plus (Rest Of World).
