24 Hours in Police Custody returned on Monday evening, bringing one of the most shocking cases in the history of the show to our screens.

The episode focuses on Bedfordshire Police’s investigation into a series of crimes, which resulted in the rape of two teenage girls.

Barry Price was the suspect focused on during the Channel 4 show, following his arrest in 2019.

In shocking scenes, viewers learned that Mr Price, 23, arranged meet-ups with young girls before raping them.

Bedfordshire police began a manhunt after two young women, aged just 15 and 16, came forward after being raped by Mr Price.

The episode then followed the officers going up against the clock to charge Mr Price, interviewing him in custody on a number of occasions.

Later at the trial, Barry was described as a ‘self-entitled dangerous sexual predator’ by the judge, who sentenced him to 18 years for rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.

Viewers shared their disgust after watching the show and seeing the sentence confirmed.

One called him a ‘vile human being’, while another adding: ‘No sentence will be long enough for this scum.’

Detective Sergeant Gilbert said after the sentencing: ‘This first episode clearly demonstrates the complexity of our specialist team’s work, and we must praise the bravery of the two young women in coming forward, putting their faith in us, to investigate such serious sexual offences.

‘We were happy to allow the cameras to follow us so the public can see not only what we do first hand, but also the challenges we face, and just how hard we work to bring perpetrators to justice.

‘Anyone who commits rape or sexual offences must expect to face the considerable consequences of their actions.’
