Ellen DeGeneres’s wife Portia de Rossi was taken to hospital on Friday and underwent emergency surgery.

The actress went under the knife to deal with appendicitis and is now in recovery, according to People magazine.

Portia, 48, is ‘doing well’ as a source told the publication: ‘Ellen rushed Portia to the hospital on Friday night, she was in a lot of pain. It was appendicitis and she had surgery.’

The source added that the former Ally McBeal star is ‘now resting at home, doing well and Ellen is taking care of her. It was a scare at first, but all good.’

Appendicitis is a common condition in which the lining of the appendix is blocked and becomes inflamed.

It can cause intense pain, and if not treated quickly — typically with surgery to remove the appendix — the organ could burst.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Ellen and Portia’s reps for comment.
