Furious RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Ginny Lemon accuses series for ‘ignoring’ request and making them ‘feel like an outcast’ in deleted tweet
Ginny Lemon has called out RuPaul’s Drag Race UK for ‘ignoring’ their request to be involved in a live chat on Twitter spaces for the BBC Three series.
The drag queen had appeared on the second season of the much-loved programme, where they chose to quit in week four after landing in the bottom two.
Still wanting to be involved with the series – that wrapped on Thursday and crowned Lawrence Chaney its winner – Ginny claims they reached out to Drag Race UK bosses and had requested to join a talk hosted on Twitter spaces.
The talk went ahead on Monday morning, with Ginny slamming the show on social media and called out those involved for ‘ignoring’ their request.
In now-deleted tweets, Ginny said: ‘Good morning to @dragraceukbbc thank you for blanking and ignoring me xoxoxo.’
Venting their frustration in a series of posts, Ginny claimed: ‘Requested to talk with @dragraceukbbc on the Twitter talk, no response, emailed… no response! WHAT THE F**K IS GOING ON.’
Ginny then accused bosses of making them feel like an ‘outcast’, as they added: ‘Thank you 2 @dragraceukbbc 4 inducing this panic attack. Ignoring me and making feel an outcast (once again). Hey GO F**K URSELFS (sic).’
When a fan responded and said that the show ‘did want them in’ and had been talking about Ginny while live-streaming, Ginny responded: ‘I kept requesting and messaging but was being ignored.’
Another suggested it could have been down to technical difficulties, revealing that Irish actress Nicola Coughlan couldn’t be added to the chat, but Ginny claimed: ‘They were ignoring me before this went on Twitter today.’
Others revealed that those on the call had requested for Ginny to join and claimed Ginny had been introduced during the talk, but failed to show.
The official Twitter account for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK had teased the Twitter space talk for its followers and included a promo poster with pictures of all the queens involved in season two, including Ginny.
‘Join us at 12pm on @TwitterSpaces with @scottygb to have a cuppa and natter with our queens to ru-cap #DragRaceUK series 2. Get your questions in using #AskTheQueensUK.’
Ginny, however, then took to their Instagram story and claimed that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is now only taking its top four queens on tour and dropping the others and claimed they were used for a ‘non-binary’ storyline.
‘I’m f***ing brassic. Was meant to be doing world tours and all that, but they’ve taken that away from us. So thank you Drag Race! That is Drag Race by the way, and not corona, just putting that out there,’ Ginny said.
Asked why by a fan, Ginny responded: ‘Coz they’re only taking the top four now, they don’t give a sh*t about the rest of us to be honest, that’s why. It’s a money-making machine.
‘They pretend to like the individual but they don’t, darling. By the way, you do know that drag race isn’t drag, right?
‘That’s not actual drag in the world, just FYI. They milked me for a nice little non-binary storyline, haven’t they? and that’s it then. Isn’t that nice? Then Bam. Kicked to the curb. Bam. Back to the trash. What’s it about then? Buy the merch darling, it’s about money.’
Ginny later revealed that RuPaul had reached out and explained that the emails they had sent were accidentally ‘overlooked’. They tweeted: ‘It’s ok babz @RuPaul just called me up 2 saying that some a**hole at the beeb overlooked my emails. That @WorldOfWonder still luv me so no worries I [heart] @dragraceukbbc again xoxo
During their time on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Ginny was praised for openly speaking about their gender identity in a powerful non-binary chat with Sister Sister and Bimini Bon Boulash.
Re-sharing the moment on social media, Ginny told fans: ‘I never thought about the impact that conversation with Sister and Bimini would have, and I’m flabbergasted by the reaction. Seeing myself on the screen like that was so raw and I’m still processing and form a response.’
They explained: ‘I’m sharing this video again because no matter how raw it may be for me, I just know especially in the most peculiar of times we can all seek solstice in knowing that we are all on that journey of loving oneself. Ourselves. Yourself. Especially to my non binary trans siblings or anyone who has felt like an outsider (sic).’
