I have too much facial hair for a woman…it’s making my life hell
DEAR DEIDRE: I’M too self-conscious to go out because people stare at my facial hair.
I’m a woman of 65 and have been using disposable razors, mainly on my chin, but lately on my cheeks too.

I have tried facial hair-removing cream but it didn’t work.
I am wondering if there are any other treatments my doctor could give me to stop the growth.
I hate shaving every day and yet if I don’t, the regrowth is so fast I soon feel and see the stubble on my chin, cheeks and top lip.
I am on tablets to regulate my thyroid function. Is this the cause?

DEIDRE SAYS: It could well be. Generally, a thyroid issue causes loss of hair but sometimes it can cause facial hair too because of the effects on your hormones.
Ask your doctor to review your medication, or for a referral to a specialist to check if you have a hormone imbalance. You can find information from the British Thyroid Foundation (01423 810093, btf-thyroid.org).
My support pack called Raising Self Esteem will help build your confidence.
