Line Of Duty’s return left Britain absolutely hooked as it returned on Sunday night – but a new addition to the team has fans convinced AC-12 have hired Theresa May

The TV series returned with a bang and a gamechanging twist with the leading trio of detectives split apart, with DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) moving to a new squad, and Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) secretly dealing with their own personal battles.

But in one scene, a grey-haired actress, dressed in a navy blue cardigan and pale shirt, was seen in a briefing meeting alongside Fleming and Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald).

While it was just a brief spot, the note-taking extra has become the unlikely star of episode one, with many comparing her to the previous Prime Minister, who stepped down from her role in 2019.

Naturally, Twitter was all over it – sharing their ideas that it’s a ‘great plot twist’ from Jed Mercurio.

Who knows… could she even be H?

‘Good to see Theresa May’s keeping busy with a strong and stable cameo in #LineOfDuty,’ wrote one.

‘Never knew Theresa May was breaking out into the acting field….,’ added another.

While a third said: ‘Who had Theresa May in the special guest star sweepstake?’

The return of Line Of Duty has brought around a fresh new set of questions and theories about the corruption hidden inside the police force.

Some believe Davidson is hiding something, and may even be connected to Dunbar’s life back in Ireland.

Jo is overseeing the case of murdered journalist Gail Vella, with new information coming to light a year on from her death but her unconventional conduct soon raises suspicions at AC-12.

But one of the biggest talking points (aside from fake Theresa)was the introduction of the term CHIS, which was misheard by many viewers on social media – meaning people rudely thought they heard the word ‘jizz’, causing it to trend on Twitter.

Thankfully the BBC were on hand to clear things up, as the continuity announcer explained as the episode concluded: ‘CHIS if you’re wondering is a Covert Human Intelligence Source’, directing people to find out more lingo online.

Line Of Duty continues Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
