Married At First Sight Australia is now down a groom, after Chris Jensen dramatically quit the show following a tense off-camera showdown with his wife.

UK viewers are barely over the roller-coaster that was season six of MAFSA – it had played out on British screens over lockdown on E4 – and it sounds like plenty more drama is set to come from future series of the dating show.

Over in Australia, season eight is well and truly underway and the experiment was rocked during Monday night’s episode when Chris decided to throw in the towel on his marriage and leave bride Jaimie Gardner.

In an awkward argument that saw him accuse Jaimie of being ‘fake’ and asking him to ‘pretend’ in the experiment for another week, Chris – who previously said he felt Jaimie was ‘disappointed’ with him as her match – insisted he was ‘done’ with her and quit the series.

Things were tense between Chris and Jaimie following a row off camera and later addressing the conflict in scenes shown to viewers, the driller from the Sunshine Coast called out Jaimie.

He said: ‘Did you, or did you not say to me that you wanted me to pretend for another week and stop being so nice to you because it was making you look like a b**ch?’

Jaimie denied doing so, prompting Chris to pack his bags. He told her: ‘I won’t be staying in this room with you, I will not be having anything to do with you because you are not the person you perceive to be.’

‘If you’re going to put an act on for the cameras, that’s fine. I don’t need to be treated like this. I’m so done with this.’

Not willing to see things out until the next commitment ceremony, Chris told producers he was done and walked out on Jaimie.

‘I’m not going to pretend we’re all good for another week just because you wanted me to,’ he vented. ‘I’m not good enough for you. The lie is done.’

Chris said he’d felt ‘used’ by Jaimie and felt he had to leave, adding: ‘I can’t just play this game that we’re all good, it’s just not right.’

He and Jaimie only lasted one week in the experiment after joining season eight of MAFSA as late arrivals in week three, along with the show’s first bisexual groom.

Liam Cooper tied the knot with Georgia Fairweather and was later seen being grilled by the rest of the couples over his sexuality at their wedding reception.

The first four weeks of season eight’s experiment has seen five couples (including four original couples) leave.

UK viewers will get to see all the drama unfold as season seven and eight of MAFSA is set to land on E4 later this year.

Married At First Sight Australia is available to stream via All 4.
