Square Enix has published an extended PS5 features trailer for the upgraded Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
It’s barely been a month since the surprise announcement that Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be getting a PlayStation 5 version, dubbed Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (okay, maybe it wasn’t that surprising).
At the time, the most eye-grabbing aspect was the new story content starring ninja girl Yuffie. So to remind people, Square Enix has shared an extended look at all the fancy new features you can enjoy thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5.
The trailer doesn’t reveal anything new, unfortunately, and only reiterates already confirmed information. But it’s worth watching just to see how much of a difference stronger hardware makes.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake looked great on PlayStation 4 but there were plenty of aspects that could’ve done with some touching up (the infamous doors, for example) so the trailer highlights improved textures, lighting, and even fog effects.
The most noticeable difference is the frame rate, with Intergrade offering a much smoother 60 frames per second. However, like other PlayStation 5 titles, you can’t have 60fps and 4K graphics at the same time; you’ll need to choose between the two.
Loading times have also been improved and a photo mode has been added (because what modern game doesn’t have a photo mode?). It seems like there’s no limit to where you can take photos either, with some of the examples shown including boss fights.
As a reminder, the PlayStation 5 upgrade is free to anyone who purchased the original PS4 game, but the Yuffie DLC will need to be bought separately. Also, if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber and downloaded Final Fantasy 7 Remake for free, you’re not eligible for the free upgrade.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade releases for PlayStation 5 on June 10.
