The PS5 really is becoming easier to get hold of, with the the amount of stock this week set to be 60% higher than usual.

There might not be very many new games out in March but there have definitely been a lot more PlayStation 5 consoles around this month, and for once there are some specific figures to illustrate how the situation is improving.

Although the numbers aren’t official (Sony has never said anything about any of this) Twitter channel PS5 Stock UK claims that Amazon UK is expecting around 8,000 new consoles to be in stock this weekend.

That’s clearly not much to go around for the whole country but it’s usually only 5,000, so the situation is improving and hopefully will continue to do so.

The channel admits it doesn’t know if there will be any more deliveries, but most stores are now getting new stock in on a regular basis. And while it never lasts very long, for now obvious reasons, the supply is at least a steady trickle.

As has been widely reported, there’s a worldwide shortage of computer chips in general at the moment, so the fact that the PlayStation 5 is becoming more easily available at all is something of a miracle.

The Xbox Series X has also been in stock this week and indeed the GAME website is still accepting pre-orders and advertising the use of Xbox All Access, which allows you to buy the console in instalments.

Chip manufacturer AMD had previously estimated that the two consoles wouldn’t be easily available until the autumn, but with the global shortage getting worse that may have been overly optimistic…
