Bebe Rexha defends Kylie Jenner over GoFundMe donation controversy: ‘It’s not anyone’s business how anyone spends their money’
Bebe Rexha has jumped to Kylie Jenner’s defence as the reality star was heavily criticised over her donation to a make-up artist’s GoFundMe.
Kylie, 23, came under fire after urging fans to donate to Samuel Rauda’s fundraiser to cover medical bills, including brain surgery, following his involvement in a car accident.
It emerged that Kylie donated $5,000 (£3,600) herself towards the GoFundMe but many argued she should have covered the entire bill given she is estimated to be worth around $900million (£653m).
In The Name Of Love singer Bebe felt the flack Kylie was getting wasn’t warranted and tweeted in support: ‘It’s not anyone’s business how anyone spends their money. Period.’
After receiving backlash herself, she added: ‘First of all you guys need to get your info correct. I’ve never met Kylie and I don’t know her. But this is not her friend, it’s not her makeup artist. She posted this too help her friend who is his friend. And she gave 5k to someone who she prob met only once. Y’all are bored.’
When one follower said they would have covered all costs, Bebe replied: ‘But that’s your prerogative. You have to do what you feel in your heart.’
Bebe, 31, deleted the tweets as criticism mounted but she later posted: ‘Ok I’m done. I’m gonna go enjoy my day and be unbothered. And pray for Sam.’
Kylie has since clarified her donation amount and explained that she was trying to meet the remaining donation goal, which was set at $10,000 (£7,200).
She explained: ‘I feel it’s important for me to clear up this false narrative that I’ve asked fans for money and am not paying for my makeup artist’s medical bills.
‘Sam isn’t my makeup artist and unfortunately we don’t have a personal relationship any more but I have worked with him a few years ago and think he’s the sweetest.
‘I saw my current makeup artist and friend Ariel post about Sam’s accident and his family’s gofundme and I called Ariel immediately to see what happened to Sam.’
She continued: ‘After learning in more detail about the accident it compelled me to visit his gofundme which was set at 10k. They had already raised 6k (£4,300) so I put it in 5k to reach their original goal and thought I’d post on my stories to gain more awareness if anyone also felt compelled to share or donate.’
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star added: ‘I don’t know how all of this got so twisted but his family has reached out through Ariel and are very appreciative of all the donations, prayers and love towards Sam.’
Kylie was previously said to be a billionaire by Forbes but the publication dramatically stripped her of the title last year, estimating she was now worth around $900million instead.
