CONFIRMED: Oscar Winning Actor Jamie Foxx to Play Mike Tyson in New Series

The excitement surrounding Mike Tyson continued with the latest announcement. It is now confirmed that famous American actor Jamie Foxx will play the former heavyweight champion in the new series documenting Tyson’s life.

After a successful return to the sport in November 2020, the good news continues for the hard-hitting heavyweight. Whilst in the middle of negotiations for a bout against Evander Holyfield, it will please him to know that an Oscar-winning actor will portray him in reel life.

The Sun reported the news, confirmed Foxx’s role, and provided an update on the producer for the series. Martin Scorsese is officially the executive producer for the boxing icon’s biographic series and will bring lots of experience to the set.

Moreover, The Sun also reported that the filming for the series is underway. However, they confirmed it was initially a movie but will now be a series on the life of ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’. Either way, this news will excite boxing fans throughout the world.

Jamie Foxx and Mike Tyson: the history

This will not be the first time the famous actor will be associated with the legendary heavyweight boxer. The pair have a very interesting history between them that goes back to when Tyson was still active and one of the most feared men in the world.

On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Foxx recalled, “I met Mike Tyson in the weirdest way, I was on stage doing stand-up years ago [when I was 22]. I get to my Mike Tyson joke and nobody claps, nobody laughs. You know why? Because Mike Tyson is in the building.”

This would not have been a position anyone would have liked to find themselves in. However, the American actor also spoke about how he started spending time with Tyson after that and saw him at his highs and lows.

Therefore, this makes Foxx the perfect actor to play the iconic boxer in a series. It will be interesting to see the final outcome of the production. However, they did not announce a potential release date.
