I have no way to pay my bills while I wait for my delayed foot operation

DEAR DEIDRE: I NEED an operation on my foot as the pain is crippling me and my financial situation is just as dire.

I’m a woman of 45 and my partner is 55 and he can’t work because of a disability.

I can’t work because I’m in so much pain but I’ve used up all my sick days

I started to get foot pain two years ago and my company paid for me to see a specialist.

I could barely walk by the time my appointment came through and I couldn’t do my job as a care worker.

The specialist said I’d need an operation but my company wouldn’t pay for private treatment so I’m on the NHS waiting list. With the pandemic, everything has been put back.

I’ve now used up all my sick days and am on statutory sick pay but this won’t cover my bills. What can I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: Go back to your GP and explain the impact of waiting for this operation. They may be able to fast-track you.

Talk to your company and see whether there’s something else you can do for them where you can sit down to work.
