‘Spotlight is on Mac Jones’ – Analyst Singles Out Alabama Quarterback for Special Praise

Mac Jones

The 2020 NCAA College Football season ended with Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide Football team lifting the National Championship Trophy. This was coach Saban’s record-setting 7th championship ring. Quarterback Mac Jones, RB Najee Harris, and WR De’Vonta Smith are all potential first-round picks at the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jones was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2020. He ended the season with a college career-best of 4,500 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns against just 4 interceptions.

Here’s what the people at Good Morning Football have to say of Jones’ predicted landing spots this summer.

Mac Jones primed to impress scouts in the coming weeks

NFL insider Tom Pelissero joined GMFB co-hosts Nate Burleson, Kyle Brandt, and others to talk about the personality of Alabama QB Mac Jones ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He said, “Mac Jones is going to throw about 40 balls today to do 60 balls next week. And he’s gonna do other stuff too, including running the 40. I know Kyle is all about it, that’s gonna impact things a lot for him. Certainly, with Mac Jones, you wonder with no Waddle and no Smith, who is he throwing to? The answer might be, you know, a couple of us at the table here, right? But he wants to go out there and compete. That’s one thing that teams love about Mac Jones.”

“He’s a competitor, he wants to show he can go out there regardless of who is around and just go compete. This is kind of his day-to-day. I mean it, really I mean, it’s the Alabama Pro Day but this is really the showcase for him even though he’s gonna actually throw more passes next week and potentially showcase some of the other players on Alabama’s roster….but the spotlight is on Mac Jones today. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it,” Pelissero said on the show.

Jones has 6,126 passing yards and 56 passing touchdowns during his three-year stay with Alabama. He has thrown only 7 interceptions in that period and won the Davey O’Brien award in 2020 as well. He is reportedly on the radar of the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and even reigning Super Bowl champions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
