There’s an intriguing new show arriving on our screens this evening, with Strangers Making Babies coming to Channel 4.

The series follows people as they look to meet prospective ‘co-parents’ to have children with.

The Channel 4 synopsis reads: ‘A group of single, would-be parents look for a platonic partner to have a baby with, without the complication of finding love first.’

With the help of fertility specialist Dr Marie Wren and matchmaking expert Gillian McCallum, single women meet with different men and discuss the next step on their journey to parenthood in the new four-part series.

The first episode follows professional nanny Venicia and amateur ballroom dancer Sarah, who are both looking into the possibility of having children of their own.

‘I do want to be a mum because I have a lot of love to give,’ Venicia, 34, said. ‘I raise these babies every day and I’m ready to keep them!’

‘Trying to find a co-parent can be a little like shoe shopping because you end up looking for the shiniest of all of the options,’ Sarah added.

Dr Wren reminds participants and viewers that the show isn’t a dating service, although romance could flourish between prospective ‘co-parents’.

‘It’s perfectly possible that people who meet through this process could have a romantic spark,” she said.

‘However, romantic entanglement might just make it more complicated.’

Dr Wren also spoke about the possibility of a gay person co-parenting with a straight person.

‘It means that the focus is all on the child and not on the co-parents,’ she said.
