Glee cast will reunite at GLAAD Awards to honor late Naya Rivera’s character
The Glee cast are coming together to honor the late Naya Rivera in order to celebrate her character Santana Lopez’s legacy at the GLAAD Media Awards.
The actress died in a tragic accident last July in which she drowned during a California boating trip with her son Josey.
Now her former co-stars will celebrate her work at the 32nd annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation media awards on April 8.
Amber Riley, Jane Lynch, Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jacob Artist, Vanessa Lengies, Alex Newell, Harry Shum Jr. and Becca Tobin will all attend the event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Santana’s coming out on Glee.
Following an introduction from Demi Lovato (who played one of Santana’s girlfriends on the series), the group will honor LGBTQ teens and Rivera’s character, Santana Lopez.
The character Santana started as a William McKinley High School mean girl, but she evolved over the six seasons as she came to terms with her sexuality.
Santana came out in the 2011 episode, I Kissed a Girl, after developing feelings for best friend Brittany Pierce (Morris).
The GLAAD Media Awards will be hosted by Niecy Nash and stream on YouTube on April 8 at 8pm ET.
The event will also stream on Hulu on April 8, and will be available to stream on-demand on the streamer until the end of June.
