Gwyneth Paltrow reminds us all that Steven Spielberg is her godfather and he actually videoed her wedding
Gwyneth Paltrow has a pretty special connection with Steven Spielberg, as the critically-acclaimed director is actually her godfather.
The actress, 74, casually reminded us all of the random, but pretty impressive, family connection and revealed that having the filmmaker as a godparent comes with some insane perks.
For instance, thanks to Spielberg’s love of producing films, he was more than happy to act as videographer at Gwyneth’s wedding to husband Brad Falchuk.
‘I guess I had a pretty good videographer,’ Gwyneth joked, while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
She revealed: ‘He always has a video camera in his hands, so any family event – the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, whatever the case may be – he is always videoing.
‘He definitely has videoed me over the years and he was actually, you know, the only person who was videoing at my wedding two and a half years ago.’
Floored by Gwyneth’s revelation, Kelly joked: ‘Did he charge you?’
The Iron Man star isn’t the only celebrity actress that Spielberg is a godparent too, as he is also godfather to Drew Barrymore.
Drew found fame after being cast in Spielberg’s iconic movie ET, released in 1982, and he later became her godfather when Drew was in her teens.
She credited Spielberg for being her mentor and insisted the director has ‘always been there for me’.
Gwyneth’s TV appearance comes after she was seen opening up on her marriage to Brad and her divorce from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The movie talent revealed in a recent interview that she had ‘never wanted to get divorced’, but admitted her split with Chris – who she shares two children with; daughter Apple, 16, and son Moses, 14 – helped her to ‘learn so much’ about herself.
‘Getting divorced, I’ve learnt so much from something I wanted least in the world. I never wanted to get divorced. I never wanted to not be married to the father of my kids, theoretically,’ she said on Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast.
‘But I have learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined.’
Gwyneth explained that going through her divorce helped her to find something she had ‘never had before’ with her husband Brad, who she wed in 2018.
She said: ‘Because I focused on accountability, I was then able to find the most amazing man and build something that I’ve never had before with Brad, my husband.’
Gwyneth and Chris had been married for 10 years, before deciding to ‘consciously uncouple’. Despite their split, they’ve stayed good friends and now co-parent together.
