Kate Garraway defends ‘untidy’ house as Finding Derek viewers comment on state of home

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has laughed off criticism about her ‘untidy’ house following her ITV documentary.

The 53-year-old presenter opened up her home to viewers earlier this week in a film that explored her husband Derek Draper’s battle with coronavirus as he remains in hospital.

Speaking about the reaction to the documentary with Susanna Reid and Adil Ray on today’s show, Kate said she was overwhelmed by the response, but also tickled by remarks about her messy surroundings.

‘I also smiled at the number of people who pointed out how really untidy I am,’ Kate laughed. ‘Can I just say there were builders in at the time!’

‘I’ve heard it makes no difference in your house whether there’s builders there or not, to be honest!’ quipped Adil.

‘Don’t get a documentary crew around today,’ Kate giggled.

Susanna pointed out: ‘That just shows how down to earth you are, Kate. Don’t you think?’

Viewers flooded social media to comment on the state of Kate’s house following Tuesday’s documentary Finding Derek.

‘After watching Kate Garraway on TV this morning I can’t think of anyone more deserving of DIY SOS to help get her house ready for husband coming home from hospital,’ wrote one.

‘I’m a 100% behind Kate Garraway and she has all my sympathy but my god the state of that house is giving me an anxiety attack,’ wrote another.

Elsewhere on today’s Good Morning Britain, Kate shed light on her partner’s current state after it was revealed that Kate’s husband Derek could be in hospital until December.

‘Once the documentary goes out in parts, the situation doesn’t change does it, so the battle for Derek goes on and he’s got a challenging week this week and next,’ she told audiences.

‘Yesterday I was feeling [overwhelmed] and that’s what I think we’re all feeling, aren’t we? We’re all feeling like the battle goes on.’

Derek was hospitalised in March 2020 with Covid-19 and has been getting treatment ever since.

He is now free of the virus, but is still dealing with the long-term effects it has had on his body including kidney failure and liver damage.
