This Morning’s Phillip Schofield has heavily criticised the fact that lockdown restrictions are being lifted on a Monday rather than at a weekend when people may have more freedom to socialise outside the working week.

On Monday March 29, members of the public in England will finally be allowed to meet up in groups of either six people or two households, with socialising allowed outdoors and in private gardens.

On Thursday’s edition of This Morning, Holly Willoughby and Phillip celebrated the fact that they’ll soon be able to socialise in larger groups as lockdown restrictions gradually ease as part of the government’s roadmap.

However, the pair were none-too-pleased with the fact that the rules are changing on a Monday, as opposed to on a Sunday.

After Holly explained to viewers what the new rules are going to be in a few days’ time, Phillip asked: ‘What were they thinking, doing it on a Monday?’

‘That’s what they were thinking, that’s exactly what they were thinking,’ Holly responded.

‘Why not do it on a Sunday you miserable devils?’ Phillip remarked.

‘I guess they’re just eking it out in the hope that you won’t do anything for another week,’ Holly speculated.

Assuming that many people will be enjoying drinks in their social groups on Monday, Phillip questioned: ‘Yeah, but how bad’s your head going to be on Tuesday?’

‘Well, yeah. That’s a very good point,’ Holly added.

Several This Morning viewers expressed their excitement about the rule of six coming back into effect.

‘I can’t wait for the rule of 6. I finally get to see my goddaughter born a couple months ago,’ one person tweeted.

On Tuesday March 23, Holly reflected on one year of coronavirus lockdowns in a heartfelt post shared on Instagram.

In her caption, the TV presenter wrote: ‘Morning Tuesday… It’s a year to the day that Prime minister Borris Johnson first put us into national lockdown… feeling rather reflective about how far we’ve come and how far we’ve got to go…

‘Sending love to you and your families and especially thinking of you if this Year has taken away someone you love.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
