Pierce Brosnan is taking on the first superhero role of his career, after being cast as Doctor Fate in Black Adam.

The former James Bond star, 67, will suit up alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson’, who’s playing anti-hero Black Adam.

Doctor Fate – aka Kent Nelson – is the son of an archeologist, who is given the magical Helmet of Fate.

The character, created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Howard Sherman, is one of DC’s oldest heroes, first appearing in 1940, but he has rarely appeared on screen.

Brent Stait played the character in TV series Smallville, and Pierce’s portryal will be the character’s cinematic debut – so no pressure there!

Things are being kept super under wraps about the movie, which is due for release in 2022, but last year The Rock did confirm which Justice Society members will be making an appearance.

Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher will all pop up in the movie.

Meanwhile, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, and Aldis Hodge will star alongside The Rock and Pierce.

Black Adam is due to start production very soon, with The Rock doing the most to get himself ready – including sticking to a strict diet and absolutely massive portions.

‘One month away from shooting #blackadam⚡️ so the diet is very strict and all food is weighed & measured,’ the 48-year-old captioned a recent video, which looked down on a plate of white eggs and beef tenderloin.

He also panned his camera to a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and gluten-free Ezekiel English muffins with smart butter, Stevia and cinnamon for added sweetness.

The Jumanji star revealed he drinks powdered greens, a fibre drink, and a can of his own ZOA Energy to wash down his foods.

He added in his caption: ‘This prep has been a long one (since 2020), but all the pieces are coming together, and as always, I’m staying flexible to any changes and pivots that need to happen along the way.

‘Script, production, strength & conditioning, diet etc etc.’ He added: ‘Enjoy the weekend with your families and remember, diet is the key. 🔑’

Black Adam is slated for release in 2022.
