Sir Rod Stewart was seen crashing his wife Penny Lancaster’s interview on Lorraine, as he recovers from his ankle surgery last year.
Penny, 50 chatted away to Lorraine Kelly about her new work as a Special Constable – but the presenter got a little distracted when a familiar face popped up in the background.
Sir Rod, 76, could be seen waving in the background as he walked with crutches, with Lorraine saying: ‘He’s behind you! Hello gorgeous.’
It was only a flying visit for the Maggie May hitmaker, but Penny explained that he’s been keeping himself busy while recovering from his surgery last year.
‘He had knee surgery, that was fantastic – he got over that quickly,’ she said. ‘But the ankle surgery is taking a little bit longer, but he’ll be back!
‘He’s done a whole new album, that’ll be out soon when he gets to tour, which he can’t wait to do.’
Penny, who married Sir Rod in 2007, added that her husband has been ‘very supportive’ of her work with the police.
‘He knows it’s a burning desire, like he can’t stop me once I’ve decided on something,’ she said. ‘Obviously he’ll be nervous for me because police do put their lives at risk every day, but I’ve had the training and I’ll have the support.’
Penny has been training to join the City of London police force as a volunteer Special Constable after taking part in Channel 4’s Famous and Fighting Crime.
While she found some parts of the experience ‘terrifying’, she realised it was something she’s really passionate about.
‘It was supposed to be me stepping out of my comfort zone but, in fact, it felt like it was where I was supposed to be. It was a revelation,’ she said at the time.
Sir Rod added (via MailOnline): ‘No one’s ever been able to stop Penny if she’s decided she wants to do something. And I’m always behind her all the way.
‘But am I scared for her? Yes, a little. Did you see that drug addict who threatened to stab her with a needle on the TV show?
‘As long as she’s accompanied at all times by another constable, she’ll be okay.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
