This Morning viewers were left horrified by Phil Vickery’s latest cookery offering – a hot cross bun ice cream sandwich covered in sauce.

The chef delivered the high calorie dish to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on today’s episode, with both already looking shocked as they were told to dig in.

Vickery tried to encourage the ‘healthier’ side by saying there were raspberries in the ice cream and sultanas in the buns, but Phillip wasn’t having it.

Explaining how you can make ice cream without a machine, and the best way to make the hot cross bun flavoured sauce, Vickery explained he also soaked the store-bought buns like a bread and butter pudding.

It was later revealed the dessert has a staggering 1319 calories in it – which the cook said was ‘worth it’.

Phillip looked like he’d fallen in love after just one bite when he finally dug in, after previously looking revolted at the idea.

Holly wasn’t sold though, and didn’t appear like she’d tried it at all except to sample the sauce that was on top of it.

But viewers seemed just as uneasy about the foodstuff and in fact seemed pretty grossed out about it.

Elsewhere on the episode Holly and Phillip discussed what’s to come ahead of the latest lockdown lift, with Phillip slamming the government for placing the lift dates on Mondays, when people can’t fully enjoy them.

After Holly explained to viewers the new rule of six, which will be allowed from next week, Phillip asked: ‘What were they thinking, doing it on a Monday?’

‘That’s what they were thinking, that’s exactly what they were thinking,’ Holly responded.

‘Why not do it on a Sunday you miserable devils?’ Phillip remarked.

‘I guess they’re just eking it out in the hope that you won’t do anything for another week,’ Holly speculated.

Assuming that many people will be enjoying drinks in their social groups on Monday, Phillip questioned: ‘Yeah, but how bad’s your head going to be on Tuesday?’

‘Well, yeah. That’s a very good point,’ Holly added.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
