BBC Breakfast viewers convinced Robert Jenrick ‘skipped show’ as Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty host
BBC Breakfast viewers were full of speculation that Robert Jenrick had ‘skipped’ an appearance on today’s instalment, as Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty hosted.
The pair recently made headlines when they poked fun at the size of a flag placed behind the Housing Secretary during a recent interview.
Naga later apologised for liking ‘offensive’ tweets after the chat, with the corporation sharing a public statement explaining the presenters had been ‘spoken to and reminded of their responsibilities’.
However, fans were left wondering if Tory ministers had decided to boycott today’s episode of BBC Breakfast as they took to the sofa again.
Robert also appeared on Good Morning Britain, with Kate Garraway and Alex Beresford at the same time.
Flocking to Twitter, a viewer questioned: ‘2 days in a row with no visit from a trusted Tory MP for #bbcbreakfast.
‘Was a tricky question asked last time… Robert Jenrick are you worried Naga might ask you a real question?’
‘Are ministers boycotting Naga & Charlie? If so what silly little snowflakes they are. #bbcbreakfast,’ another penned.
While one added: ‘Have the #BBC avoided having government ministers on with Charlie Stayt and @TVNaga01 or are they being boycotted #BBCBreakfast.’
On a recent instalment of BBC Breakfast, Charlie made light of Robert’s flag being ‘not up to standard size government interview measurements’.
‘I think it’s just a little small, but that’s your department, really,’ he laughed as the interview came to an end – with the guest not responding to his quip.
A statement from BBC later said: ‘At the end of a long, serious interview with the Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick, Charlie Stayt made an off the cuff remark about the size of the flag behind Mr Jenrick.
‘It was meant as a light-hearted, off the cuff comment and no offence or disrespect was intended.
‘Naga and Charlie have been spoken to and reminded of their responsibilities, including the BBC’s impartiality and social media guidelines.’
