Box.co.uk plans new lottery to buy Xbox Series X consoles on Tuesday

If you haven’t picked up an Xbox Series X yet then your best, or at least fairest, chance might be next week, as Box.co.uk start a new allocation ballot.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X may not be as hard to get hold of as they used to be but they’re still not exactly easy to acquire, with Sony and Microsoft offering zero assistance in the constant fight against scalpers.

Most retailers haven’t done much to dissuade them either, but Box.co.uk is one of the few that has at least tried, with a lottery style ‘allocation ballot’ that gives people the chance to buy a console at random – a simple but effective way of reducing the chances of scalpers buying up all the stock at once.

The last time they did this was back in February but now they’re giving advance warning that they’ll be starting another ballot on Tuesday, March 30.

There isn’t a specific start time, but Box.co.uk are advising that you sign up to the website beforehand via this link.

Box.co.uk has also got stock in of the cheaper but less powerful Xbox Series S but won’t be running a ballot for that as, in their words, there’s less demand.

They’re also not offering a ballot for the PlayStation 5, presumably because there’s not enough stock to make it worthwhile.

The only other store to offer a similar lottery system is Currys PC World, who recently started their Priority Pass system that works in a similar manner.

Currys don’t have either next gen console in stock at the moment but have been contacting Priority Pass users recently, to offer them the chance to buy a PlayStation 5.
