EastEnders star Ross Kemp has admitted he’d be ‘over the moon’ to be offered a role in police drama Line of Duty if the opportunity arose.

On Friday evening’s edition of The One Show, Ross spoke to presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keating about his upcoming documentary Britain’s Tiger Kings – On The Trail With Ross Kemp.

The two-part ITV programme will follow Ross as he explores people in Britain who own dangerous animals including tigers and lions, drawing parallels with Netflix’s hit series Tiger King.

But while Ross busies himself meeting Britain’s equivalents of Joe Exotic, could a role in Line of Duty be on the cards in future, following the current sixth series?

During his video chat on the BBC talk show, Alex – who announced yesterday that she’s pregnant with her third child – put forward the idea.

‘Now we thought you’d be really good on that. So if you were offered a role, what would your reaction be?’ she said.

‘I think I’d be over the moon and so would my dad, having been a police officer for so many years. And I think it’s a fantastic series,’ Ross said in response.

‘Well if the casting agents are watching, see now, we’ve given them an idea,’ Alex said.

Ross then gave a thumbs up to the camera, indicating that he’d clearly welcome a call from them with open arms.

At the beginning of the show, Alex expressed her gratitude towards all the fans who have been sending in supportive messages following the news of her pregnancy.

‘Before we start I have to say a huge, huge thank you for all the lovely messages that you’ve sent on our Instagram and our email last night after the news. If you missed it, I’m having a baby,’ she said.

As Ronan whooped, she continued, saying: ‘But thank you, honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed and I’ve read all of your messages. Thank you so much.’

Ross, 56, first appeared on EastEnders in 1990 playing Grant Mitchell, the younger brother of Steve McFadden’s Phil Mitchell.

His last appearance on the soap was in 2016, when he made a brief return to Albert Square after previously leaving the show.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
