Ed Sheeran reveals tattoo tribute to late music executive Michael Gudinski after emotional funeral performance
Ed Sheeran unveiled a tattoo tribute to Michael Gudinski, after the music executive’s death.
The founder of music label Mushroom Group – which helped launch the career of Kylie – died peacefully in his sleep on March 2.
After Ed broke down during an emotional performance at his funeral this week, the Shape Of You singer revealed his new inking in memory of his late pal.
The 30-year-old joined Michael’s son, Matt, at the Grey Street Tattoo studio, in Melbourne, to get the matching designs.
In snaps shared on the studio’s Instagram page, they showed off the tributes on their arms, with the inkings showing a hand holding up a number one sign sign, with MG in the centre.
The design paid respects to one of Michael’s iconic poses.
Beside the uploads, tattooist Jake Fraser penned: ‘Rest In Peace MG.
‘Nice spending time with you Ed and Matt.
‘A tragically heavy moment but I feel grateful to share this moment with you all. *original image not by me* @greystreettattoo.’
Ed’s new addition to his tattoo collection comes after he performed a new song, Visiting Hours, at Michael’s at memorial.
Taking to the stage at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday, the musician belted out some of his pal’s favourite songs from his catalogue, Castle On The Hill and A Team.
But the star was overcome with emotion while belting out the new track – which he penned in the wake of his loss.
He took a moment to compose himself before carrying on with the rest of the song.
‘We did our first tour with him and soon after that I quickly realised that he was just a barrel of laughs,’ he said.
‘Everywhere he went he lifted the room and then f**ked off.’
Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes were also on hand to perform at the memorial.
