Gogglebox: Who are the Siddiquis and what jobs do they have?
Every week, Gogglebox provides TV viewers across the country with a much-needed dose of levity, with the cast members’ reactions to topical TV shows and films almost always bringing the laughs.
One of the fan-favourite groups on the Channel 4 programme is the Siddiqui family, who have been delighting viewers with their opinions on current affairs for close to a decade.
While Gogglebox is a significant part of their lives, the Siddiqui family do have careers outside of the TV show, all of which are particularly academic.
So who are the Siddiquis and what jobs do they have in the real world?
Who are the Siddiquis?
The Siddiqui family have been a part of Gogglebox for eight years, having first joined as series regulars in 2013.
The Derby-based family include dad Sid and brothers Baasit and Umar, with third brother Raza making occasional appearances.
Sid moved to the UK when he was 16 years old, having been born in Pakistan.
He and his wife, Nasreen, have been married for around 40 years and also have two daughters.
The family share a joint Instagram account, which currently has over 45,000 followers and goes by the handle @thesiddiquis.
What jobs do the Siddiquis have?
Sid is a retired engineer, having previously worked for the University of Derby and the NHS.
Umar is a biomedical scientist in microbiology for the Royal Derby Hospital, while Baasit works as an IT teacher at a secondary school.
The Siddiqui family boasts quite an impressive set of resumés to say the least!
Alongside the Siddiqui family, the only other cast member to have been in every season of Gogglebox since season one is Stephen Webb.
In October last year, the Siddiquis shared a rare photo of the matriarch of their family in a sweet family picture.
Baasit, who manages the account, shared a series of images on the family’s Instagram account, featuring Sid with his wife Nasreen and their granddaughter Amelia.
In the caption, Baasit wrote: ‘I was trying to get a photo of all three of these guys staring at the camera and smiling! Dad is like a statue with that smile but Mum and Amelia we’re doing it on purpose.
‘Each time one of them would smile the other would look the other way or swap! The Siddiqui ladies are a stubborn and cheeky bunch.’
Gogglebox airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
