In 2000, the world was left speechless after Angelina Jolie and her brother James Haven shared a kiss on the lips at the Oscars.

The legendary moment took place after the then 24-year-old’s best supporting actress win for Girl Interrupted, and many could argue that more people remember the smooch than her impressive accomplishment on the night.

Indeed, 21 years later, we’re all still so puzzled by the strangely passionate embrace she shared with her brother at the Vanity Fair afterparty.

An embrace that came after she said she was ‘in love’ with her brother during her winner’s speech, stating: ‘I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now.

‘He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that.’

After the smooch made headlines across the globe, Angelina branded the reaction to their relationship ‘pathetic’.

It was later revealed that the siblings had been visiting their mother Marcheline Bertrand – who died of cancer in 2007 – in hospital earlier that day, which explained their emotional embrace.

In June 2000, Jolie addressed the kiss and told Entertainment Weekly that the pair had nothing ‘more than brotherly’ love for each other.

She stated: ‘My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter.’

Elsewhere, James told Daily Mail on 2007: ‘I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely.

‘She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing.’

Tomb Raider star Angelina has gone on to have even more legendary red carpet moments in her career such as wearing a vial of her then-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood.

As well as that iconic leg bomb at the 2012 Oscars.

Jolie, who has also been married to Trainspotting actor Jonny Lee Miller, went on to settle down with Brad Pitt and raise their brood of six – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

However, the pair went on to split and are in the middle of a bitter divorce battle.

Time will tell what the next iconic red carpet moment from Angelina will be!
