Jessica Simpson says she doesn’t want a public apology from John Mayer over ‘sexual napalm’ comment: ‘You can’t take it back’
Jessica Simpson has said she doesn’t want a public apology from her former boyfriend John Mayer after he famously made widely-criticized comments about their sex life.
The singer opened up about the relationship during her appearance on Friday’s The Tamron Hall Show to promote the paperback edition of her memoir, Open Book.
The memoir sees Jessica, 40, reflect on her notorious on-off relationship with John, who went on to call her ‘sexual napalm’ in a 2010 Playboy interview.
When asked by Tamron if she felt like he owned her an apology, Jessica replied: ‘No, I definitely don’t feel that I am owed a public apology. I mean, you can’t take it back.
‘And I’m a very forgiving person but I’m also honest. So, in the memoir, if I’m gonna talk about stuff that caused me pain, I’m going to be honest about it. And that was a time in my life that I was very manipulated and also in love, or seemingly.’
One of the details the With You singer shared in her memoir was that John once ‘told me he was obsessed with me, sexually and emotionally.’
A sentiment he expanded on further when he told Playboy: ‘The girl is like crack cocaine to me. Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.’
The star admitted in her memoir that her embarrassment about his ‘disrespectful’ comment helped her to move on from the crooner.
The Irresistible singer then explained that her marriage to former NFL player Eric Johnson was on another level to her previous relationship.
She told Tamron: ‘Now that I have the love of Eric it’s just such a different thing, and I wouldn’t expect an apology.’
However, the I Wanna Love You Forever singer hopes that John will find a way to tell her he’s sorry.
‘I don’t think there’s a need for an apology because…I don’t know, I feel like people end up finding their way to let you know they’re sorry,’ she explained.
