Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford has said it’s ‘good to be back’ as he returns to the presenting panel on the ITV show following Piers Morgan’s exit.

The star took a short break from presenting on the show after his clash with Piers earlier this month, returning as the resident weatherman last week.

Now, he’s made his return as a presenter, with his co-star Kate Garraway throwing her support behind him.

After he praised her for her documentary about her husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle, Kate, 53, said: ‘And you’ve had tumultuous times, haven’t you? It’s lovely to have you here.’

‘It’s good to be back,’ Alex , 40, responded.

Piers left GMB earlier this month, after he received a record number of Ofcom complaints about his comments on Meghan Markle.

During the show that day, he and Alex clashed over his remarks, with the 55-year-old storming off set.

‘I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme,’ Alex said at the time.

‘I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off… She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to.

‘Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.’

As a result, Piers stormed off the set saying he wouldn’t be ‘trashed’ on his own show.

In a statement afterwards, Alex said he never intended for Piers to quit – but he did want him to listen.

‘I hoped we could reach a place of understanding,’ he wrote. ‘It’s sad that we weren’t able to get there but challenging his opinion was not an outrage. On this occasion we have to agree to disagree.

‘I didn’t want him to quit but I did want him to listen. Personally Piers has always supported my growth.

‘He’s given me advice on several occasions and for that I am grateful. I wish him well!’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
