The Chase’s Mark Labbett has revealed his extraordinary 10 stone weight loss.

On Friday’s instalment of Loose Women, the gameshow whizz credited dropping a staggering five trouser sizes to a low sugar and carb diet and ‘running after a hyperactive toddler’.

The 55-year-old also explained that a friend advised him against getting a gastric band because of the way he consumed his calories through sugar.

He said: ‘I’m not a drinker, but sugar has always been my downfall. A good friend of mine who had the gastric band said it won’t do any good for me as I get all my calories by sugar, and it’s too easy to digest.’

Mark, nicknamed The Beast, added: ‘I still have sugar but an awful lot less. I should have less still.’

Mark continued to give an impressive further insight into his weight loss, adding: ‘I am gradually dropping Xs off my size. I’ve gone from 5XL to 4XL, and it looks like the next time I go shopping, I’ll be able to squeeze into XL underpants.

‘I’ve lost 10 stone. I was 29 stone when I was a full-time teacher in 2003, and I was in danger of high blood pressure.’

Mark explained that ‘a few things came together’ during lockdown, which helped with his slimmed-down physique.

‘The principle thing is running after a hyperactive toddler when nurseries have been shut,’ he said.

‘I’m sure every woman knows this, how do you keep up with them? I found at the end of the evening instead of going to the fridge for late night snacking, all I could do was collapse on the bed.’

Mark added: ‘I’ve been lucky in that a year ago I had suspected Covid, I lost my sense of taste and I didn’t want to eat in these two weeks.

‘Being a big guy like myself, the weight falls off now. I don’t feel like eating as much, so I eat less and lose more weight.’
