Ally McBeal reboot starring Calista Flockhart being discussed nearly 20 years after finale
Ally McBeal could be making a comeback to television screens.
The American comedy-drama series, which first aired in 1997 and ran for five seasons, is being discussed by bigwigs at production company 20th TV, according to TVLine.
Ideas for a revival of the legal show are being considered with original creator David E Kelley expected to have some input, although not as a writer.
Actress Calista Flockhart, 56, has already been approached about starring in the title role again but no formal talks have been held.
The programme ran on Channel 4 in the UK and Fox in the US from 1997 to 2002, and featured Ally as a lawyer working at Boston law firm Cage and Fish alongside her ex-partner and his wife.
It tracked Ally’s life both in and out of work as she searched for love and her purpose in life.
The storylines mainly followed the characters’ romantic and personal lives with legal proceedings as a plot mechanism.
In addition, the firm’s lawyers and secretaries were often seen dating, flirting or had a romantic past.
The show was highly regarded by critics and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 1997 and 1998, and won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1999.
The cast also starred Courtney Thorne-Smith as Georgia Thomas, Greg Germann as Richard Fish, Lisa Nicole Carson as Renée Raddick, Jane Krakowsi as Elaine Vassal, Peter MacNicol as John Cage and Gil Bellows as Billy Allen Thomas.
