The Irregulars is Netflix’s newest must-watch and to be honest, we’re still dealing with the massive gamechangers put in place.
This definitely is unlike any Sherlock Holmes story we’ve seen before.
With season one leaving a lot of unanswered questions, we’re now desperate to hear news of a season two – and what that will mean for our new favourites going forward.
More importantly, how they will cope by themselves now they’re back living their lives away from the supernatural elements.
Will they be able to keep away for too long? Or will Jessie’s desire to reunite with her mother prove too strong?
Here’s everything we need to know as we await news for what comes next…
Will Sherlock get back to London?
Sherlock Holmes (Henry Lloyd-Hughes) is a broken man in The Irregulars, with his long-fabled opioid addiction fully taking over him.
With his mind not being what it once was, he was left in a depression over the loss of Alice – so when he eventually found the opportunity to join her, he took it.
Abandoning daughter Jessie (Darcy Shaw) and Bea (Thaddea Graham) once again, the selfish and erratic detective jumped through The Rip, potentially never to be seen again.
But surely, if what lies on the other is so bad that Alice tore through it and risked destroying the world to get back, the grass isn’t going to be any greener for him on the other side.
Will he be able to finally defeat his demons, and return to 221b Baker Street?
What happened to Alice in The Rip?
Alice was always a little impulsive, but to break through a barrier between worlds, releasing supernatural phenomenon onto London and potentially causing the end of the world is quite a thing to do.
We get that she wanted to be reunited with her daughters, but her fear of returning to the world beyond The Rip seems to shake her to her core.
So what exactly did Alice experience over there?
How will Watson survive without Sherlock?
We have to admire The Irregulars for finally dropping the bomb fans have been speculating over for centuries – Watson (Royce Pierreson) is in love with his detective pal.
But his loyalty to Sherlock over the years has worn on him in many ways, seeing the man he loves fall in love and even start a family with their mutual friend.
After the loss of Alice, he remained devoted even though Sherlock continued to be cruel and manipulative in a bid to get his next fix.
Letting him go into The Rip was a massive step for Watson, but he’s going to feel guilty and more than a little heartbroken that, after all these years, Sherlock’s feelings simply weren’t reciprocated.
Even more, he’ll have to figure out a life without his business partner.
Will Leo’s double life be exposed to the palace and will he actually get married?
While Leo (Harrison Osterfield) lives a life of riches, he has only really felt a sense of belonging once meeting Bea, and The Irregulars.
Sacrificing his life with Bea in order to get Billy out of jail for murder, Leo leaves the group in order to head overseas and get married, continuing his family’s Royal obligations for strong ties with other countries.
But the Prince being kept in the castle is not going to just give up, surely. With his sister on side, he’s going to need to figure out how not to get caught.
While it might be easy enough to evade his absent mother, those pesky Royal aides really do know how to get in his way – and make sure he stays put.
Where has Spike come from?
Let’s be honest here – who doesn’t absolutely adore wheeler dealer Spike (McKell David)? He’s the go-to guy for everything. A laugh, a hug or getting something dodgy done quickly.
But unlike the others, his background continues to remain unknown, joining the group only after they left the horrific conditions of the workhouse.
As he grows closer to Jessie, surely we will need to find out how he ended up one of the street kids, where his parents are and what that means for him.
Is there another side to him that he’s not letting on?
Will Billy remain safe after his accidental murder of Vic?
Billy’s temper was going to get the best of him eventually, and boy did it when one (admittedly totally deserved) sucker punch killed evil workhouse boss Vic.
Let’s be clear here – Vic, who abused the kids from childhood – totally and utterly deserved it. Hell, he literally asked for the punch that eventually killed him, and Billy was just acting in self-defence.
But that’s not the problem. This is Victorian London we’re dealing with here, and if you’re convicted of murder – that could mean the death penalty.
Leo was able to pull strings to get him out, but that came at a great personal cost to him, a cost that Billy still doesn’t know about.
If Leo goes back on his promise, or Billy discovers the truth, he could literally end up paying for what happened with his life.
How long will The Rip stay closed?
The Irregulars managed to achieve the impossible and with Jessie’s powers closed The Rip, saving London potentially for good.
But how long is this going to last before things get out of hand again?
Let’s face it, if there’s a season two, there is likely going to be new forces at hand for them to battle – and there are so many ways trouble can follow them.
What if someone finds out about Jessie and tries to harness her powers? What if Watson tries to figure out a way to get Sherlock back safely, only for it to backfire spectacularly? What if Jessie misses her mum too much and tries to fix it?
There is so much room for error here and things are only going to get worse.
We’re excited to see what happens next…
The Irregulars is available on Netflix now.
