Dillian Whyte Upset Over Fourth Round Knockout of Alexander Povetkin: ‘I Could Have Finished Him Early’
Dillian Whyte is famous for his brutal honesty in and out of the ring. ‘The Body Snatcher’ doesn’t shy away from saying it as it is. And after his victory over Alexander Povetkin, the Brixton-born fighter opened up about his performance.
Whyte took on Povetkin in a crucial rematch with a lot riding on it. However, the 32-year-old avenged his loss in the first fight with a vicious knockout of the Russian in the fourth round. Despite this, the Englishman wanted a better performance.
Whyte addressed his performance at the post-fight interview. He said, “You know what, I’m upset it didn’t get finished in the first round. I could’ve you know, I tried. But he’s a tough guy.” This comment showed Whyte’s regret with his performance. However, it was a testament to Povetkin’s chin.
The 28-2 heavyweight then added, “Last time I put him down twice, but I think I could have finished him early.” Thus, Whyte had the first fight in mind and wanted to make a statement with his performance.
Despite not getting the first-round knockout, the Englishman showed why he belongs among the top fighters in the division.

Why didn’t Dillian Whyte get the first-round knockout?
Whyte made no secret of his regret, and although he credited Povetkin, the Londoner felt he should have finished the fight earlier. So why didn’t ‘The Body Snatcher’ step on it and finish the fight in the second round?
In the first fight, Whyte dropped Povetkin twice in the fourth round. The second time, the bell saved the Russian. Thus, as soon as round five began, Whyte sensed danger and went for the knockout. However, Povetkin caught him with a powerful uppercut and knocked him out.
Therefore, the Londoner was careful not to make the same mistake. Even though Whyte hurt Povetkin in the first round, he took his time and picked him apart. As a result, he avoided any big-blows from the veteran Russian.
Ultimately, it paid off as Whyte got the all important victory and can look ahead towards his next opponent.
What do you make of these comments from Dillian Whyte? Do you think he should have gone for the first-round knockout?
