Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might have moved on to Hollywood but you can never doubt his love for WWE.

The former world champion has swapped the squared circle for film studios and based on stories like this, you can’t really blame him.

Injuries are part and parcel of the game, but The Rock has revealed has once had internal bleeding and coughed up blood following a routine move from in-ring rival Ken Shamrock.

Sharing a graphic photo of the match itself on Instagram, Dwayne wrote: ‘Not the most elegant or sexy #throwbackthursday back when I had a lil’ internal bleeding (not planned) while wrestling @UFC Hall Of Famer, @kenshamrockofficial aka “The World’s Most Dangerous Man”.

‘I loved wrestling Kenny around the world and we had some classic matches.
On this night I took a hard suplex and the impact damaged blood vessels in my lungs causing the blood to come up.

‘Kept composed, made sure I could breath and continued with the match. (sic)’

The legendary wrestler admitted his opponent – who recently left IMPACT Wrestling and is now a free agent – didn’t really show much ‘compassion’ after the scary moment, but Rocky still looks back fondly on their matches.

He added: ‘I’d like to think Ken would’ve shown me some compassion, but his facial expression says “f**k your bleeding lungs” as he tries to rip my ankle from my tibia

‘These were good days and this was how I proudly made my bones. As always, “thank you for house”, brother’.

There were clearly no hard feelings, as Dwayne made an exceptionally rare non-WWE pro wrestling appearance to induct Ken into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall of Fame at Bound For Glory last year.

He said: ‘A friend, my brother, congratulations on the induction into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall of Fame.

‘I’m extremely proud of you, and thank you so much for the memories. Thank you so much for the sweat equity, and thank you for being just an awesome dude, man, at a time when I really needed it in my career.

‘I really appreciate it. Very proud of you, enjoy this and you’ve got some Teremana Tequila coming for you, and I want you to enjoy it.’

The company’s boss Scott D’Amore recently opened up about his history with The Rock, and why the Great One showed real respect for the promotion by getting involved with Shamrock’s induction.

‘Like all of us, he’s a wrestling fan, and he appreciates wrestling fans and their support,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk. ‘That’s why a guy like Dwayne was able to say, “Ken’s been honoured, I wanna be there for Ken”.

‘He’s gone out there and he’s responded to other talent’s stuff – he’s a class act. Having him being involved – he’s doing it for Ken, there’s no question about that, and Ken deserves it.

‘But it shows he trusts us, to be part of our induction of Ken. it’s a great, great thing for us, and we look forward to it.’
