Storm Keating released from hospital in time for daughter’s 1st birthday after spinal surgery
Storm Keating felt an ‘explosion of emotions’ as she was discharged from hospital in time to celebrate her daughter’s first birthday.
The former model, who is married to Boyzone singer Ronan Keating, was rushed to hospital last week with severe back pain before undergoing emergency spinal surgery.
Fortunately, Storm, 39, was released from hospital care on Saturday and was able to reunite with her family to celebrate her daughter Coco’s milestone birthday.
In an Instagram post, Storm shared a video of Coco’s colourful birthday celebrations and footage of the tot smiling excitedly.
She explained in the caption: ‘Happy 1st birthday to our little ray of sunshine.. our little Coco Bean 💕
‘Today was an explosion of so many emotions for so many wonderful reasons. I love this girl with all my heart – what a spirit and what a sparkle. I’m so excited about the future ahead for this little firecracker, and the proudest mummy in the world. I love you.
‘Coco Knox Keating – unconditionally and always ♥️.’
The soundtrack added a personal touch as the song, As Long As We’re In Love, was written and performed by Storm and Ronan themselves.
Ronan, 44, shared his own heartfelt message on Coco’s birthday and wrote: ‘Well that was a week I never want to live again to Have my Storm in hospital under the most extreme circumstances and not be able to see her and hold her hand and give her a hug and tell her everything was going to be ok was the toughest I have known I felt so helpless, her strength is insane.
‘The care she received and the expertise was incredible thank you to Dr Aftab and all the team you got her home today, She is on the mend and I am so grateful. What a day to come home thank God she made it.So happy birthday to our Beany Bum.’
He continueed: ‘This little rascal has been the light in our darkest time. Born in lockdown and now we celebrate your first birthday under the same terms but you never stop smiling and loving all around you. Thank you Coco for all you are and all you make us.
‘We are so lucky to have you in our lives. Let’s Pop a bottle raise a glass and celebrate living.’
Storm had been diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome, a rare and severe type of spinal stenosis where all of the nerves in the lower back suddenly become severely compressed.
Symptoms include sciatica, severe numbness or weakness in the legs or around the genitals or anus, and issues with urinating.
Explaining her ordeal, Storm previously told her followers: ‘‘On Saturday I was rushed in with what we already knew was a very bad prolapsed disc, which had more recently escalated to the point where it needed surgical intervention.
‘There are no words that will ever come close to describing my gratitude to you Syed, thank you. And to Georgia and all the wonderful nurses and healthcare assistants who wiped my tears, comforted my fears, cleaned me up and allowed me to keep my dignity in moments where I thought I would lose it… you are amazing human beings to do what you do, thank you.’
Storm had received a sweet ‘get well soon’ card from her son Cooper, three, who she also shares with husband Ronan.
